Cognify Lab — artificial intelligence, research and design

Cognify is an R&D lab in artificial intelligence and data that works with technology companies and information-intensive organizations to research, develop, and evaluate new AI capabilities.

Our work is organized around four R&D areas:

01 — AI model training

  • Data
  • Training
  • Evaluation
  • API
  • Products

We develop and train artificial intelligence models to create new capabilities over data and information.

We work with scientific, industrial, and organizational data to develop models capable of analyzing, classifying, predicting, extracting, and connecting information, and turning it into useful capabilities for AI systems and products.

We address the full cycle: from building and curating datasets to training, evaluating, and deploying models through APIs, tools, and products.

02 — Distributed frontier intelligence

  • Distributed systems
  • Agents
  • Skills

It is possible to achieve frontier capabilities or frontier intelligent behavior in well-defined tasks through relatively small models combined with memory, tools, search, verification, and control mechanisms.

Not every relevant capability needs to be concentrated in the parameters of a single large-scale model.

We investigate new distributed system architectures and develop functional prototypes, agents, and capability APIs (skills) to test this hypothesis.

03 — AI Reliability

  • Evaluation
  • Evidence
  • Uncertainty
  • Traceability

We investigate how to evaluate and improve the reliability of AI systems used to analyze data, retrieve information, and generate knowledge.

We study errors, hallucinations, overconfidence, and loss of traceability, and develop methods to evaluate results, verify claims, represent uncertainty, and preserve the relationship between responses and evidence.

04 — AI-Native Products

  • Interfaces
  • Conversation
  • Agents
  • Adaptation

We investigate and experiment with new ways of designing products in which artificial intelligence is part of the core architecture.

We explore intelligent interfaces, conversational and agentic experiences, adaptive systems, and new forms of interaction with data and information.

We design and evaluate prototypes to understand how models can act as an interface between people, information, tools, and systems.

Current Challenges in AI

AI systems are becoming increasingly capable, but open problems remain about how to build new capabilities, train and adapt models, evaluate their behavior, and turn them into useful and trustworthy systems.

The next generation of artificial intelligence will depend not only on larger models. It will also require better ways to learn from data and experiments, optimize models for specific problems, control their behavior, and design better forms of collaboration between people and AI.

Cognify was founded to work on these problems.
